Dangerous Book for Dogs

NEW! Just added on August 18, 2008!

Rex and Sparky added me as a friend on Myspace and I discovered they wrote a great book called The Dangerous Book for Dogs: A Parody by Rex and Sparky (Hardcover)

So I researched into it and tricked Mommy into buying the book. I told Mommy it would be a good idea for her to stay informed on the subjects that might be mentioned inside such a dangerous book.

Sure enough, Mommy bought it and she laughed the whole time she was reading it. She then tried to hide the book from me but I found it and read it too! Muhahahahah ... I'm so sneaky! ~ Chip

It's almost time for Halloween and Chip already has his Halloween costume for 2008!

Chip got the large Pet Royal King Dog Costume!

Here's a photo of Chip's award winning 2006 Halloween Costume in Petco's Halloween Contest!

Rawhide Bones

Chip eats this every day. I purchased a packet online (since it's cheaper than the store) through Amazon.com.

Chip likes to eat the compressed rawhide. He has to bite harder and it lasts longer. The more compressed the rawhide the less chances of him ripping it into little shreds, which could cause him to choke if he chews too quickly.

8 inches rawhide for medium to large dogs.

Chip holding Dingo Double Meat

Chip does love the Dingo Double Meat. However he loves it so much that he inhales right through and sometimes choke on the smaller pieces.

So if you plan on buying Dingo Double Meat bones, be vigilant and watch your dog while he/she is eating it.

Chip's Wallet

Chip wears a black doggie collar wallet around his neck every day that contains his "bathroom" bags and other items.

Squeaker Toys

Chip LOVES all kinds of squeaker toys.

If it sqeaks, he loves it.

Squeaker Toys for Dogs

Squeaker Ball

After months of training Chip on squeaker toys, I finally was able to get Chip to chase his first tennis ball!!

This Squeaker Air Kong works wonders!

Eovlution Undercoat Rake

We often get asked what rakes we use to keep Chip's coat so fluffy.

We use 2 types of rakes.

We first start off with the undercoat rake. Since Chip is part Chow Chow, he has a second coat that is mostly white fur underneath his brown top coat.

We use the Evolution Undercoat Rake to reach this soft white undercoat.

Evolutions Self-Cleaning Slicker Brush

We use the Evolution Self-Cleaning Slicker Brush for Chip's top brown coat.

This brush has a release mechanism that retracks the bristles and releases all of the fur for easy cleaning.

This brush is great if you're dog is medium to large sized.

Chip's Crate

When we go places and need to keep Chip from roaming the house, we use the Sof-Crate.

It's easy to collapse and very portable to carry. There's zippers on the top too for easy access to petting Chip before we leave.

There's many different sizes for the Sof-Crate so make sure to pick the size that's appropriate for your dog.

Bigger isn't always better. Too much room gives the dog more reason to roam and perhaps break out of the crate.

Chip is 60 pounds and he uses the crate that's 36"L x 24"W x 27"H.

Chip's Coolaroo Pet Bed

Chip loves his Coolaroo pet bed. It's airy and springy and it doesn't collect fur and other yucky stuff like his old squishy pillow dog bed.

Chip also likes to use the open corners as cup holder for his dog bones when he's bored.

Bone Holder in a Dog Bed

The Coolaroo pet bed is so durable, it can even fit another friend!

Chip is 60 pounds and he uses the 3' by 2' medium sized Coolaroo pet bed.

And if you want to get something that represents your love for your dog, check out these really cool dog charms!!

Chip's Dog License Tag

Chip's Dog License Tag

Speaking of dog charms and tags, it wouldn't be fair if Chip doesn't have his own cool dog tags.

I've gotten a lot of questions over Chip's driver's license dog tag.

I got it from a website called yappyhappy.com

It's not a cheap dog tag. It's fairly pricey, but the quality is terrific!

Chip has been wearing his since 2006 and it's still going strong. It's a very noticeable dog tag and it gets a lot of attention. So you do get what you pay for :)

Chip's Dog ID Tag

Chip's regular blue dog tag is a double-sided dog id tag.

The front says his name, address, and phone number.

The back says "Do Not Shave".

We got this ID tag from a website called terrificpets.com.

The price of this dog ID tag is cheaper than going to Petco or Petsmart. Plus S&H is free!

But the main reason we like this website so much is it's ability to do double-sided engravings!

Chip in a cone

When Chip gets sick, he is one expensive dog to take to the vet! The minimum bill is always $150. By the time the vet visit and the medications are added in, we are generally averaging around $300 each time Chip gets sick.

Since Chip is always considered a large dog, his medication, the cone, the examinations are always based on prices for a large dog.

So we decided to get him his very own PPO dog insurance through PetsBest.com.

As of 2008, we have been very pleased with their service and the benefits they've covered. It's very easy to get reimbursed for medical expenses after the deductible has been met. Kayla and Mika are both subsribers of PetsBest as well.

Canidae

Chip used to be on Natural Balance, but he kept on getting hot spots on his skin and costing us a huge amount in medical expenses, thus we decided it was time to switch.

We were recommended to try Canidae. It was gentler on his stomach and Chip actually wanted to eat his kibbles!

So if you're dog has a sensitive stomach or breaks out into rashes, try looking into a new brand of dog food to help solve the problem!

Buffalo Blue

Meanwhile, Mika and Kayla are both on Buffalo Blue.

Buffalo Blue is also an excellent brand of dog food made especially for dogs with long coats. Both Mika and Kayla's coats are extremely soft, much softer and silkier than Chip's coat.

Chip's friend Baby - a corgi mix is also on Buffalo Blue and her coat is also softer than Chip's coat.

I wish I could put Chip on Buffalo Blue but with his sensitive stomach, I didn't want to take the chance of more hot spots on his skin.
